..Caritas India JEEVIKA COMMUNITY media initiative..strengthening community journalism

Community media greetings from Caritas India JEEVIKA!

In 2013 most of survive with mobile phone, getting updates on facebook-twitter-and blogs, watching videos on youtube, daily morning before we wake have our newspaper on door, plasma/LCD TV with more than 200 plus news channels……. ….and in programmes we update our self /donors and development sector through daily reports, monthly reports, half yearly reports, annual reports and various case studies and other means of communication….

….but what about community with whom we are working? Is there something for them to updates on our programmes going with them…are we sharing some reports with them…are we making aware with them in their own villages and in other villages through our programmes what we are doing….? CARITAS INDIA JEEVIKA partner at Indore (IDSSS-Indore) has found it interesting and important and initiated a concept of ‘Community Media’ from Sept 2013 onwards, where in:

•Team has developed a ‘community media team’ including community members ( from Community Based and Managed Organisation-CBMO-farmers Club and SHGs) and every month in cluster ( there are two clusters of 7-7 villages) they organise 1-2 days meeting/workshop and discuss entire happening of the month and CBMOs work as an editorial team , develop articles, share pictures, share stories of success and with JEEVIKA IDSSS-Indore team work on it and come out with a one page magzine-JEEVIKA Se Vikas ki aur…. (in Hindi)

•The above said community media paper been further financially supported by community ( 1 ruppee from CBMOS members and 5 INR prom panchayts) to meet printing expanses

•The one page community media paper been circulated to CBMOS, Panchayts, blocks, NGOS (locally working near JEEVIKA project villages) and interested community members!

What exactly this community media initiative under CARITAS INDIA JEEVIKA umbrella would give back to community? • Community would be knowing all about happenings of project every month-its like sharing a monthly progress report with them in their own language-Hindi

•Community would be skilled in concept of Journalism/mass communication- and hopefully in near future we would have community reporters!

•Establishing a very transparent system of working with community , and other stake holders

•Making PRI as the part of JEEVIKA initiative

FUTURE plan: •To link this –JEEVIKA COMMUNITY MEDIA’ initiative with Makanlal Chaturvedi University of Journalism ( in Bhopal , Madhya Pradesh) and community would be more professionally trained on mass communication skills

•Linking with some media groups like Danik Bhaskar

•Sharing this Community Media concept with IIM-Indore (Indian Institute of Management-One of the top 6 renowned Management college in India) and link with IIM Indore alumni association for funding this initiative!
