JEEVIKA: the most innovative development programme ever happened: Bishop Gerald Almeida ( Jabalpur)


Jabalpur Dioceses Most rev Bishop Gerald Almeida in an exclusive interview with Caritas India states that JEEVIKA programme of Caritas India has shown the innovation in development and is a unique programme and such initiative with innovation has earlier never happened!

It strengthen social teachings and shown a regular and innovative system of guidance starting from Caritas India as well as Caritas Spain to partners and community!

Tiwani: JEEVIKA village 100% organic!


Tiwani is an interior village and Panchayat in Pali block of Umariya District ( Madhya Pradesh) with 148 households on the periphery of Bandhavgarh forest. Tiwani is habitat by goond tribes and their main source of livelihood is agriculture.

In last 30 years chemical based farming has emerged in the village and initially it has given profit to farmers with good production , but slowly production keep on decreasing as fertility of land has decreased.

With initiation of JEEVIKA in 2012 promotion of sustainable agriculture in the form of locally possible natural inputs have been done through JEEVIKA team with support from farmers Club and SHGs . Systematic Rice Intensification (SRI) is one of the important technique which has been promoted through JEEVIKA in Tiwani.

To promote sustainable agriculture team has JEEVIKA team has conducted about 18 workshops, 21 trainings , 6 wall paintings and 10 demonstrations in the village and with this slowly all 148 households have adopted practices of Organic cultivation. Harshvardhan, 26 years, a young farmer in the viallages sataes that now with JEEVIKA Tiwani is the first village in the region where 100% of households practices organic cultivation.

In total with JEEVIKA in Tiwani organic cultivation is on 300 bigha of land and SRI on about 30 bigha of land.
