...story of change@JEEVIKA Ujjain

It is not money ………but lack of information, interest, motivation, and hard work put people behind the development …… but earnestness leads people to initiate the Empowerment ……

When the project started its implementation team found that it was really a hard task to make the people aware that organic farming is must to regain the quality of soil, food and in larger extent climate. While we did organize the meeting people agreed with the concept and the idea but in practice they were not realistic. There were many reasons for them to explain. They have told us that chemical farming is giving more yields to us and organic farming will reduce the yield. Almost 100% of the farmers in the area are involved in chemical farming. Other difficulties were high price of bricks, cement and labour. So farmers are not ready for the organic farming.

Mrs. Rukma Boban is a stake holder in our project. She is very active and participates in all the activities of Jeevika project. Her family is having two begas of land and she helps her husband in agriculture. One of the trainings organized in her village was very interesting for her. She attended the meeting very carefully. She wanted to construct a organic pit but she was not having money with her. Project was not helping any farmers fully to construct the organic pit. She expressed her willingness to make the organic manure. She had made organic pesticide two three times. It was noted by the cluster coordinator. So the cluster coordinator took the issue to the coordinators who intern advised cluster coordinator to motivate the women for constructing the zero cost Ukehda . She accepted the suggestion and prepared the Ukheda . She covered the cow don and other related things which was kept in the field as useless with the yellow mud late she made some holes with bamboo on the covered things. It is expected that with in threes month organic manure will be ready. Otherwise if all these materials kept open then it will take next three years to become manure. Another problem is that this substance also breeds sickness and dirtiness in the area. She had to spent one full day and to do hard work for the same but she was successful in her endower. It was great success for the project because project was lacking behind for the construction of the organic pits. Project feels that this type of initiative from the farmers will motivate other farmers to adopt the same system in their agriculture life too.
